Samsung Vitality Review : Budget Music Phone with Android Gingerbread

Samsung Vitality, tagged with model number SCH-r700, is a phone that accommodate Cricket’s Muve Music service. It was announced for the first time on January this year and allow customers to grab all musics, ringtones, ringback tones, and all other music related contents, directly from their Cricket handset. This service is also packed with the carrier’s regular plan, which include talks, text, and Internet.
Samsung Vitality is the second Muve Music phone from Cricket. It is currently run on Android 2.3 Gingerbread. Although it is dubbed as the second Muve Music, Samsung Vitality is actually the first device that “really” support for the service. That’s because the title was previously granted to Samsung Suede, but for some good reason, the launching of this phone was delayed, which give Samsung Vitality a way to emerge. Being a Muve Music phone means that Samsung Vitality also posses a dedicated Muve Music button on the left hand side of it’s chassis.
Overall, Samsung Vitality looks quite similar to Samsung Admire from MetroPCS. It is not surprisng since this handset is the rebranded version of the MetroPCS’ device! As we mentioned earlier, the difference lies on the dedicated Muve Music button, which will give you an instant access to the service. Talked about dimension, this phone is currently measured at 4.6 inch tall, 2.4 inch wide and 0.5 inch thick. It is quite small, even for today’s standard, so this handset wouldn’t find any problem to fit into your small jeans or coat pocket. Samsung Vitality is currently weighs at 4.14 only, so it will be easy to carry on anywhere you wanted. But soon we notice that it is coated with a plastic-made chassis, so you must hold it carefully folks.
Samsung Vitality
In term of display, Samsung Vitality carry on 3.5 inch screen with HVGA resolution. It is currently manage to provide us with decent colors quality. Graphical features displayed in detailed view. There’s up to 5 different home screen, which can be decorated with any widget you deserved. It is possible to place the Google search bar on the home screen. Unfortunately, there’s no option to put quick access to turn on/off WiFi and Bluetooth connectivity on the home screen. Since it run on Android 2.3 Gingerbread, you can utilize some useful upgrades that Google offered for this device.
Samsung Vitality use swype keyboard to use the handle the touch keyboard feature. If you’re already get used to phone/device with larger screen, you’ll find it difficult to use the keyboard on Samsung Vitality. There’s only four rows, each keys are separated with small space. Off course you can instantly switch to numerical keypad. On the other hand, there’s nothing much to tell about it’s dialpad.
Right beneath the display, you’ll be able to find four capacitive buttons that control Android’s main function like home, back, search, and menu. Volume buttons and microSD card slot are currently take place on the left hand side. On the opposite side, you can find the power control and Muve Music dedicated button. Right on the bottom part of the handset, lies microUSB port for charging purpose. 3.5mm audio jack is currently sit on the top side of the handset. Turn the phone and you’ll be able to find the 3.2 megapixels rear shutter.
Aside from the Muve Music service, this handset also has additional features like Bluetooth, WiFi, email, text, GPS, and Google standard apps like Map, Gmail, and Navigator.
Now, it’s time for us talk about Samsung Vitality’s 3.2 megapixels camera. It is able to capture image with standard 64 x 480 pixels resolution. You can choose between three different picture quality. Not to mention that it also has useful camera features like focus mode, scene, spot metering, white balance, color setting, geolocation, and 4x zoom. There’s no restriction for how long you can record a video. Just as long as you have enough free space, the camera will continue to record it.
Samsung Vitality is powered by a standard 800MHz processors. It might not as fast as the next generation dual-core CPU, but sufficient enough to provide us with stablest yet decent system performance. The phone quality might not the best we’ve ever experience and we are also notice some delay when we try to switch between the regular Android Gingerbread interface and Muve Music. Depends on your current signal strength, you can download your favorite tunes from Muve Music real fast.
According to Samsung’s data, the vitality should be able to provide 6.5 hours of talktime and 10.4 days of standby time. We have no chance to run a proper battery test, but we believe that it will bring performance similar to it’s non Muve Music sibling, the Samsung Admire. The MetroPCS representative only manage to survive for up to 3 hours and last for 8.3 days on standby time.
Overall, Samsung Vitality is a great alternative if you’re currently look for budget Android music phone. It is priced at $200 only and the monthly Music Muve plan will only cost you $35. The great thing is that there will be no string attached. You are free to end your service anytime you want and use Samsung Vitality as a regular phone!

New Impression of Samsung Galaxy S Blaze 4G

T-Mobile is recently announce Samsung Galaxy S Blaze 4G as part of their current lineup. It is currently priced at $149.99, on contract off course. Off course with that amount of money, you’re not expect a hardware specs like Galaxy S II don’t you? This handset is little bit smaller than it’s fellow Samsung handset. It is a perfect alternative for any Samsung fan that looking for a comfortable handset to hold and the one that is not too bulky.
T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S Blaze 4G
Samsung Galaxy S Blaze 4G is measured at 4.8 inch tall, 2.5 inch wide and 0.5 inch thick. In terms of display, this handset posses a 4.0 inch screen with 800×480 pixels resolution and Super AMOLED Display technology. Colors and images are currently look vivid and vibrant enough for today’s standard. Our personal impression about the panel suggest that it is look great from distance, but when take a closer look, it is simply noticeable. This handset might be small, but we don’t have any typing trouble until now, thanks to the amazing built-in Swype keyboard.
Talk about call quality, it is fair enough to say that this is an average phone. The sound and voice might not as good as Samsung Galaxy S II but you can still hear it loud and clear, although we notice some grainy effect on it. Speakerphone feature is able to produce loud sound, but when we try to use it on out door environment, it is not good enough. All of this condition make us sure to call Samsung Galaxy Blaze as mediocre handset, when it comes to call quality.
T-Mobile is currently not offer any LTE service on their plan, but the anybody can take advantage from their HSPA+ 42 network. So, it is no surprise that Samsung Galaxy S Blaze 4G is also compatible with this kind of service. Aside from that, the handset is packed with WiFi 802.11 a/b/g/n and WiFi hotspot capability. During our network test, this phone is manage to provide us with maximum 14MBps download speed, while the lowest amount we’ve got is 12Mbps. It is equal to 4G network you know. But when it comes to upload speed, the network is lousy. We are only able to get 1.5Mbps. Samsung Galaxy Blaze 4G is manage to survive for up to 6 hours and 16 minutes on consecutive talktime.
Deep inside the phone’s chassis, you’ll be able to find a 1.5GHz dual-core Snapdragon S3 processors made by Qualcomm. So we have no problem with it’s performance so far. In addition, you’ll also granted with open access to Google Play, which is currently offer more than 450,000 different apps right now. This handset is still run on Android 2.3.6 Gingerbread and on top of it, lies the famous Samsung TouchWiz UI. While other Galaxy devices are already confirmed to receive ICS update this year, there’s still no word for Galaxy Blaze 4G. Anyway, Samsung is also pre-loaded some useful apps to this phone. That’s include Kies Air, which allow you to view your contact information to desktop computer, Media Hub, Social Hub. The rest of pre-installed software that you got on this phone is T-Mobile bloatware like App Store, Name ID, and Mobile TV.
Samsung Galaxy S Blaze 4G is packed with 2.44GB internal data storage. Thankfully, T-Mobile also include a free 4GB microSD card that already installed in the respective slot. It is manage to read up to 64GB memory card, so there’s no need to worry for running on low data space. This phone is a great alternative for portable media solution. It is support for various audio format like .AAC, .MP3, .OGG, .WAV, and .WMA. Sadly, there’s no additional code for .FLAC.
On the back side of it’s chassis, you should be able to find a 5.0 megapixels rear shutter. It is manage to record a nice 720p HD video on 30 frames per second. The footage quality is sharp and neat. If you interested to conduct a video chat, you can take advantage from it’s 1.3 megapixels web camera. Sadly, there’s no support for HDMI output port on this phone, so you can’t stream your video to a larger TV screen.
Well, that’s all from us right now folks. Overall, Samsung Galaxy S Blaze 4G is a perfect choice if you’re currently look for a budget Android phone with 4G capabilities. But if you’re a great fan of speed and system performance and have no problem with bigger size, the we suggest you to grab Samsung Galaxy S II instead.

New Samsung Galaxy S Blaze 4G vs HTC Amaze 4G

Samsung Galaxy S Blaze 4G is officially announced by T-Mobile on early February. It is now available in selected stores and will flooded the market on it’s nationwide release on March 28. If you’re interested, you can own it for $150 on contract. On the other hand, it’s competitor, HTC Amaze 4G is currently priced at $230. Both of these handset are support for 4G Internet network and unable to run on fast blazing LTE connection, just like the one that offered by AT&T or Verizon. Samsung Galaxy S Blaze 4G is currently classified below Samsung Galaxy S II. It might has a nice 4.0 inch display, but doesn’t has as much feature as HTC Amaze 4G.
Samsung Galaxy S Blaze 4G
So, that’s why T-Mobile priced this handset less than $200. This could be a great bargain for anyone who’re looking for a budget android handset. But as you might already aware of, with low price, you’ll have to do some sacrifice in hardware specs. In our opinion, the $230 price tag for is not reasonable for HTC Amaze 4G, while Samsung Galaxy S Blaze 4G is not deserved to priced at $150. That’s why today, we decided to make a comparison between these two smartphone. Let’s see which one is really deserved all your money.
Design. Samsung Galaxy S Blaze 4G is coated with a chassis that completely made from plastic, while HTC Amaze 4G is packed with aluminum material. Off course we don’t have to explain it to you which one is more solid. No matter how it’s add more weight and thickness, we prefer HTC Amaze 4G for some good reasons.
Apps. Samsung Galaxy S Blaze 4G packed with some useful apps like Netflix and a magazine reader called as Zinio. But the rest of ‘em are bloatware from T-Mobile. You’ll get similar feature on Amaze 4G. There’s lot of applications that you’re probably never use!
Features. HTC handset is packed with 960 x 540 pixels resolution qHD display. It also support for NFC connectivity. On the other hand, the Galaxy Blaze 4G is manage to run on T-Mobile HSPA 42+ network, which able to provide you with 14Mbps download speed.
Performance. Both of handset manage to provide us with decent system performance. Transition between screens are great. Apps are launched without noticeable delay and we can do several task on the same time. The downside might goes to Blaze 4G’s pricing. With that amount of money, you won’t get any NFC support or HD resolution, which is currently exist in HTC Amaze 4G.
Hardware. Either Amaze 4G and Blaze 4G are powered by 1.5GHz dual-core Snapdragon S3 CPU from Qualcomm. Blaze only manage to provide you with 4 inch screen, while Amaze 4G has 4.3 inch of it. In addition, it also has dual-cameras, microSD card slot and HDMI output. On the other side, Blaze 4G is only posses microSD card slot and rear shutter.
Software. Both of this handset are currently run on Android Gingerbread. They’re also packed with Samsung’s very own user interface, Blaze with TouchWiz and Amaze 4G with Sense. You should be able to decorate your home screen with some beautiful widgets and other accessory.
Accessories. There’s plenty of additional peripherals available for HTC Amaze 4G since this handset is considered as the carrier’s flagship android phone. On the other hand, Samsung Galaxy S Blaze 4G is a new device, so there might be not too many accessories available for this handset.
Cameras. HTC Amaze 4G manage to surpass Blaze 4G in this section. It has an amazing camera that almost equal to an iPhone 4S. The shutter speed are fast and the control system are quite sensitive. In contrast, Blaze 4G photos are tend to blur. Especially when you use the zoom feature. This is quite disappointing for a device that made by one of the biggest player in the industry.
Battery. Blaze 4G packed with smaller dimension, but it has more powerful battery life time than Amaze 4G. Our independent battery test reveal that this handset is manage to survive for up to a day on moderate use.
Well, that’s all from us folks. If you interested to find our more stories about this handset, you can read our review of Samsung Galaxy Blaze 4G or full impression of HTC Amaze 4G. Soon after that, you might be able to decided which handset that you would like to pick.
