Chicken is the go-to meat for a lot of people. Not only is it cheaper than beef and pork, but it is also healthier – especially if you remove the skin or buy skinless cuts. While some people get so sick and tired of chicken, I have to admit that I will eat fried or grilled chicken any time! One great thing about chicken is that it is rather flavorless, making it the perfect ingredient to pair with different kinds of seasonings or sauces. When it comes to chicken, your creativity is the limit as it will go with practically anything! The chances are that you already have your favorite seasoning for chicken. If you keep using the same thing over and over again, however, you just might get tired of it after a while. Why not take a look at the best seasonings you can use for chicken, and enjoy your favorite meat in various ways?
Soy sauce and lemon
This has got to be one of my favorite combinations for a marinade. If you like really strong flavors, you ought to grab a bottle of dark soy sauce from the grocery store. If you lean toward lighter flavors, then light soy sauce will do. The trick is to pour enough soy sauce into a container to cover the chicken pieces. Squeeze the juice out of a whole lemon, and pour this into the container as well. Mix thoroughly and marinade the chicken for at least 30 minutes. You can then fry or grill the meat for an absolutely wonderful meal!
Salt and cayenne pepper
This combination makes for a nice dry rub for chicken. Whether you use table salt or iodized salt, it does not matter. If you use table salt, however, make sure that you let the chicken sit for a while before cooking. Also, it is best to mix the salt – especially if you use iodized salt – with the cayenne pepper so that the flavors get mixed evenly. This rub works well with fried, grilled, or even baked chicken.
Cinammon and paprika
I don’t know if you have tried this spice combination for chicken, but if you haven’t, you certainly ought to! I can’t describe just how good these two spices blend with each other. Often, I mix the spices with some flour on top of using them as a rub. This way, the chicken itself is infused with flavors, and the coating will not disappoint as well!
Coconut milk
Chicken in coconut milk makes for a deliciously saucy dish. In Asia, you will get to taste various dishes with chicken cooked in coconut milk. In order to more flavor, you can use pepper, salt, and fish sauce. Make sure to add the coconut milk mid-way in the cooking process. This is to ensure that the coconut milk will not dry up or get overdone. The next time you think “Chicken again!”, why not try these combinations?
