India’s Minister for Telecommunications and IT, Kapil Sibal would release the draft of the National Telecommunications Policy-2011 on Monday. Mr. Sible will hold a press conference at 2 P.M on Monday, 10th October, 2011.
The new National Telecommunications Policy-2011 is expected to include rules on pricing of second-generation radio airwaves (2G Spectrum) and mergers and acquisitions in the sector and a proposal of Single Pan-India license for telecom operators.
This will replace the current system where the spectrum in 22 telecom circles are individually auctioned. This and following regulations would be changed if the policy comes into effect.
The Draft of Telecom Policy 2011 may proposed the Inter-circle Mobile Number Portability (MNP). Presently the MNP regulations allow only switching between operators of the same telecom circle. The new policy would make it possible to switch from one operator in a given telecom circle to another operator in a different telecom circle.
