Free SEO Tricks and Tips

Search engine optimization is tricky. Experts attempt to follow the search ranking trends out there and sell information to clients about what will get their web site to rank higher than other web sites. In reality, what has an effect on search engine ranking varies from month to month and day to day as people behind-the-scenes tweak the algorithm that determines search results. Search engines ultimately strive to produce the best, most relevant results for people who are searching for information online. That means, that stuffing your web site with keywords and phrases that are relevant to your products and services can be helpful in getting you listed in the right category with other businesses. But rather than stuffing keywords and keyword phrases into articles to try to do SEO and get the best search engine results, it might be wiser to go with the flow and try to create content that is useful to readers.

Know the Basics of SEO

Using keywords and keyword phrases in your web site content is one important part of doing SEO, but there are other things you can do to boost your rankings as well. Putting internal links into your site and external links going out and coming back into your site can also be important. Spiders crawl the web to explore web sites and the various links between web sites. Within your web site, there should be links between pages, to make it easier for the web spider to find its way from page to page. Internal links should not be excessive, but should be useful to readers and create cohesiveness site-wide.
External links are also important. The best type of links to do SEO are external links back to your site from outside sources that are considered “reputable”. How does Google or other search engines determine what a “reputable” source is? Of course, there is no exact information about what makes a particular source reputable, but it has something to do with the amount of traffic going to a site and how many pages a particular visitor goes to on a particular visit. Reputable sites that are willing to link to your site can really boost your search engine rankings, but it isn’t always easy to get external links from reputable sources coming back to your site. Typically, having high quality content that other web sites find valuable will help build your reputation as being “link-worthy”.
